This field holds the shelfmark, that is all the information on the spine label of an item available for loan.

Note

Under SKB-E the shelfmark of non-fiction consists of the first notation and the first five letters of the filing word. For fiction (SL, KO, KM) it consists only of the first five letters of the filing word. For picture books (KK) the shelfmark field stays empty. For works with an author, the filing word is the name of the first author.

Where there is no author, or more than three authors, the filing word is the title proper; the work is then treated as a title entry. Definite and indefinite articles are disregarded as filing words.

For biographies (Bi 2, or SKB-E notations ending in 0) the name of the person written about is taken as the filing word.
