1st subfield: $u
Subfield $u holds the electronic address of an electronic resource (a link) as a URL
(Uniform Resource Locator), the standardised format for addressing resources in computer
networks. It is made up as follows:
- the protocol (
http://orfile://), - the name of the server (for example
www.ibtc.de); for local files this part stays empty (""), - the separator
/, and - the name of the electronic resource including its absolute path (for example
pub/sbc.pdforc:/dokumente/sbc.pdf).
Protocol:
http:// — reference to an electronic resource on a web server.
file:// — reference to a local electronic resource, normally a file.
References to a local file always use absolute paths (for example c:/dokumente/sbc.pdf)
and never relative ones (for example ../dokumente/sbc.pdf). Directories are marked with
the ordinary slash /, not with the backslash \ as under DOS and Windows — even where
the local machine runs DOS or Windows.
2nd subfield: $3
Subfield $3 holds what the link refers to (max. 30 characters), from this list. The
values are stored in German exactly as given here:
